PATRIOTS SHOW THEY ARE READY FOR STATE AT LAST CHANCE INVITATIONAL

The Homewood High School Indoor Track and Field teams both finished off the regular season with a tremendous showing at the Last Chance Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.  There were 176 schools in attendance from multiple states.  The girls finished 2nd, only 10 points behind 7A powerhouse Hoover, and the boys finished 3rd behind Hoover and Smiths Station.  Both teams were the first place 6A teams.  The following were the top performers for the Patriots.  Jasmine Griffin, Will Stone, Lainey Phelps, and Josh Thomas are all ranked nationally.

Jasmine Griffin (1st 60m Hurdles - US #13 and school record, 2nd 60m - US #12, 3rd 400m)
Will Stone (1st 3200m - US #3 and school record)
Lainey Phelps (1st 3200m - US #10)
Aiya Finch (2nd Long Jump, 4th Triple Jump)
Josh Thomas (2nd Triple Jump - US #20 and school record, 6th High Jump)
Christian Hill (3rd Long Jump, 7th Triple Jump)
Stephon May (4th High Jump, 6th Long Jump)
Eli Brooks (4th Pole Vault)
Alex Brooks (5th Pole Vault)
Jaden Alexander (5th Long Jump)
Girls 4x200m 3rd - US #35 (Jasmine Griffin, Makiyah Sills, Christian Hill, Briana Rapley)

PATRIOTS PERFORM WELL AT THE ICE BREAKER INVITATIONAL

The Homewood High School Indoor Track and Field teams have had two competitions over the last month.  Most recently, the teams were at the Ice Breaker Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex, which had 60 6A-7A schools participating on Saturday, January 6th.  Both the boys and girls performed well coming out of the break.  The girls finished 3rd behind 7A schools Hoover and McGill Toolen.  The boys were 4th overall behind Hoover, Vestavia Hills, and .5 point behind 6A rival Opelika.  The following athletes placed in the top 8 in their events and scored points for the team.

Jasmine Griffin (1st 60m, 2nd 60m Hurdles)
Will Stone (1st 3200m with a meet record of 9:32.49, 2nd 1600m)
Patrick McMahon (2nd Shot Put with a new school record of 48-9.75)
Lainey Phelps (2nd 800m, 6th 1600m)
Josh Thomas (3rd Triple Jump)
Aiya Finch (3rd Long Jump)
Alex Brooks (4th Pole Vault with a new school record of 10-06)
Christian Hill (6th Triple Jump, 8th Long Jump)
Stephon May (6th High Jump)
Jaden Alexander (6th Long Jump)
Girls 4x200m Relay 4th (Jasmine Griffin, Jakaria Byrd, Christian Hill, Brianna Rapley)
Girls 4x800m Relay 7th (Hanna Brook Gibbons, Laura Kemper, Adah Allen, Edie Smith)


The Homewood Star did the following report after the Holiday Invitational on December 10th, where Homewood finished 2nd behind Hoover in both the boys and girls.  See the following link.
