homewoodathletics.com/2018/03/11/great-start-for-outdoor-track-and-field-indoor-nationals-results/ The Homewood Indoor Track and Field teams added two more blue trophies to the trophy case after winning both the 6A girls and boys divisions at the AHSAA Indoor Track & Field State Championships on Friday and Saturday. The wins give Homewood 12 state championships in track and field and 19 in the T&F/XC program. This was the 2nd year in a row the girls have won Indoor State, and the first time since 2015 that the boys have won. The following is a summary of the top performances for Homewood.

There were 176 schools in attendance from multiple states. The girls finished 2nd, only 10 points behind 7A powerhouse Hoover, and the boys finished 3rd behind Hoover and Smiths Station. Both teams were the first place 6A teams. The following were the top performers for the Patriots. Jasmine Griffin, Will Stone, Lainey Phelps, and Josh Thomas are all ranked nationally.

Most recently, the teams were at the Ice Breaker Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex, which had 60 6A-7A schools participating on Saturday, January 6th. Both the boys and girls performed well coming out of the break. The girls finished 3rd behind 7A schools Hoover and McGill Toolen. The boys were 4th overall behind Hoover, Vestavia Hills, and .5 point behind 6A rival Opelika. The following athletes placed in the top 8 in their events and scored points for the team.

The girls were led by Elysa Griffin who won the 100m, the long jump, and was 2nd in the 200m. Caroline Lawrence won the high jump. Jasmine Griffin was 2nd in both the 100m and the 300m hurdles. Ann Mosely Whitsett was 2nd in the 400m. Christian Hill was 3rd in the triple jump, and Aiya Finch was 3rd in the long jump. Patrick Domingo, Jackson White, Will Stone, Paul Selden, and Andy Smith had the top performances in the boys by placing and scoring points. Homewood will host another meet next door at Samford on Thursday.

The girls added to the program's trophy collection by earning the State Runner-Up Trophy. The girls ended up 10 points behind Pelham. That is the 11th Runner-Up trophy for the Track & Field and Cross Country program at Homewood to go with the 11 State Championships. The boys finished 3rd, just 4 points behind 2nd place Northridge.
